DEDE KORKUT (Book of My Grandfather Korkut) - is an outstanding monument of Turkic written language, a heroic epic of the medieval Ogouz tribes, related ethnically and linguistically to the three modern Turkic nations - Azerbaijan, Turkey and Turkmenistan. The epic is dated 10th-11th centuries, but some parts of it were composed as early us the 9th century. The epic was put in literary shape in the 15th century. There is a short preface and twelve songs written by Korkut, a legendary sage and seer. The epos extolls the courage and fortitude of the Ogouz heroes and tlieir great exploits.DEDE KORKUT
