The President promised: Caspian Sea water will be in the central plateau in two years. |
Operational work to create environmental conditions in the Lut Desert and surrounding areas for the migration of several million residents from the areas around Lake Urmia has begun!
Fars News Agency reported that on April 17, 2012, the executive operations of the project to transfer water from the Caspian Sea basin to the central regions of the country were launched with the presence of President Ahmadinejad of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
According to this news agency, the estimated time for the completion of this project is 24 months, and it is expected that over $10 billion will be spent on the full implementation of the project.
In this $10 billion plan, the Iranian government has conducted site selection studies and determined the optimal route for transferring water from the southern shores of the Caspian Sea to the central regions of the country. A desalination plant with a capacity of 200 million cubic meters per year, along with marine structures for extracting water from the Caspian Sea, will be constructed, and the conditions for transferring this water to the central desert areas will be created through pipelines, selecting the best route for maximum efficiency.
This plan includes components such as water extraction from the sea, a power plant, a desalination system, a water pumping station, electricity transmission lines, water transmission pipelines, and water storage and balancing reservoirs.
With this news, concerns that arose eight months earlier following statements by Mousa Al-Reza Servati, a representative from Bojnord, were alleviated.
At that time, during a discussion to prevent the drying of Lake Urmia, Musa Al-Reza Sarvati, a member of the Iranian Parliament, had said: "The people of Azerbaijan living around Lake Urmia should go and do something else. Lake Urmia will dry up! Instead of allocating funds for the losses of the farmers in that area, give them money so that they can leave and do something else! Don't you say that this lake will dry up in two years? Then why condemn the government out of emotion?"
In confirmation of the statements of the Bojnord representative, another member of the Parliament, Noorollah Heydari, a representative from Farsan who had been against the Caspian water transfer to Lake Urmia, emphasized the importance of financial resources for the country, saying: "Why should one billion tomans be allocated to Lake Urmia? Why should we create problems for other areas of the country to improve the situation of one point?"
With the execution of the Iranian government's $10 billion project to transfer Caspian Sea water to the central desert of Iran, it is expected that environmental conditions in the Lut Desert and surrounding areas will be created to accommodate the migration of several million residents from around Lake Urmia. With the implementation of this massive project, the propaganda of the enemies of Iran's national unity, who sought to destabilize Azerbaijan, has been thwarted. It is recalled that following the government's and the Parliament's opposition to the plans for preventing the drying of Lake Urmia, anti-national and Pan-Turkist elements were spreading propaganda claiming that the government intended to destroy the economy of Azerbaijan and bankrupt the residents around Lake Urmia. Fortunately, with this monumental national project, it is expected that these kinds of manipulations will become ineffective.
