The poetry section editor of the newly launched magazine "Ban" in Turkey discusses the publication's activities
"One of the goals of Ban magazine is to introduce the theoretical foundations of the resistance literature in South Azerbaijan and to present practical examples of it," says Hadi Qarachay, a poet and writer who is a member of the editorial board of the "Contemporary South Azerbaijan Literature Magazine," Ban, in an interview with Voice of America.
"Our aim is to also feature works from other Turkic nations, as well as works created in Turkish as spoken in Turkey," added Mr. Qaraçay, who lives in exile in Norway.
The magazine "Ban" has published works by female writers such as Rüqayyə Kəbiri, Ülkər Ucqar, Gülara Yenisey, Leyla Rəhimi, Fəriba Həyatı, and the magazine's writing editor Türkan Urmulu. The works of female creators are significantly highlighted in the magazine. "The works of women writing in Turkish in Iranian Azerbaijan have reached a high level in both quality and quantity," noted Hadi Qaraçay, emphasizing the magazine's special focus on the works of female writers.

An article published in the magazine by Iranian Azerbaijani poet, writer, and translator Ülkər Ucqar, titled "‘Ağ Alma’ and Literature: The Male Essence of Language," critiques the dominance of men in languages in general.
The author of the books Beçələr Banlayanda and Badamlıqlar notes that the Turkish used in the works published in the magazine is of a style and level that is understandable both in Turkey and the Republic of Azerbaijan. This is not by coincidence, he explains, as Turkish written in Iranian Azerbaijan generally has this characteristic, and the magazine's contributors have preferred such a linguistic style.
In the poet's view, creating innovations and using new words does not harm the language but rather contributes to its development: "Since we do not have a state, we do not have the opportunity to create an institution like the Turkish Language Institution in Turkey. Therefore, this responsibility falls on the shoulders of magazines."
He believes it is important to benefit from the creative experiences and suggested words of the Turkish Language Institution.
The 112-page first issue of Ban, a quarterly magazine, includes sections such as prefaces, articles, conversation hours, short stories, and poems. In addition to Hadi Qaraçay, the preparation of the magazine involved poet Türkan Urmulu, Turkologist and literature expert Toğrul Atabay, literary critic Ramin Cabbarlı, and designers Atabay Tikantəpəli and Tural Sırdaş.
