Alp Orhan |
After seven months, Iranian authorities, who had initially refused to issue a birth certificate for a child born in Tehran in July of the previous year, have now accepted to issue the certificate under the name Alp Orhan. The authorities had previously refused to issue the certificate under this Turkish name, but eventually agreed to do so after persistent insistence from the Yusifi family, who refused to choose another name for their son.
Firuz Yusifi, who shared the news of his son's finally receiving a birth certificate on social media, had his words published by Azerbaijani websites:
“After 210 days of work, debate, and persistence, we were finally able to get an identity document for our son, Alp Orhan. I want to thank the companions who helped me in this process, especially the Turkish language experts and scholars in universities and state institutions, as well as the kind-hearted and culturally respectful people at the registration office.”

Firuz Yusifi also shared an image of his son's birth certificate on his Facebook page and mentioned that he had received help from a member of parliament from one of the cities in Iranian Azerbaijan.
In addition to sharing his struggles on social networks, Yusifi had also given interviews to various media outlets.
In an interview with Voice of America in September of the previous year, Yusifi explained that the name Alp Orhan had been chosen by the family after much thought and in accordance with Turkish culture, and despite the refusal of Iranian authorities to issue a birth certificate, they would not change the name.
