Approximately 300 activists from the South, including well-known writers, artists, and former political prisoners, expressed their concerns about the "terrible news" regarding the oppression faced by Uyghur Turks, and requested permission from the authorities to hold protests against the policies of the Chinese government.
The activists' statement was published on social media and websites such as Günaz TV.
Turkish activists from Iranian Azerbaijan and Tehran, including Hasan Demirci, Hasan Rashidi, Abbas Lisani, Akbar Azad, and Abdulaziz Azimi Qadim, also signed the statement, which calls on jurists from Iran, the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Turkey to bring the Uyghurs' issues to international courts.
"In the statement, it is requested that officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran allow protest actions in various regions, especially in Azerbaijani cities, against the brutal acts implemented by the Chinese government," the statement read.
According to information obtained by Voice of America, the signing of the statement continues in various cities of Iranian Azerbaijan.
