Yashar Ahmedizade

16-year-old violinist Yashar Ahmedizade, who is actively engaged in music in Ankara, moved to Turkey from Iranian Azerbaijan with his family about 8 years ago. In an interview with Voice of America, the young artist discussed his music career, future plans, and the restrictions faced by those pursuing music in Iran.

Yashar Ahmedizade, who was awarded first place in music competitions organized in the Ankara region for 6th and 7th graders, says that in addition to practicing music every day, he also participates in the orchestra formed by his musician father.

He compares the opportunities for children who want to pursue music in Turkey and Iran. "Here, music education, especially classical music education, is insufficient. But there are no barriers to music education. However, when I lived in South Azerbaijan, I wasn't supported as much as here. I didn't see much music in the community there," the artist explains.

He adds, "The reason I started music in South Azerbaijan was because my grandfather was a musician; otherwise, I wouldn't have been able to start. In Turkey, at least music lessons exist in schools. They're not very comprehensive, but they're there. In Iran, there is nothing."

Yashar Ahmedizade says that he wants to continue his music education and enter a conservatory in Turkey or another country.

He also states that in addition to classical music, he plans to organize programs in other genres to expand the audience of the orchestra he is part of.

"Music, especially classical music, is not just an elitist activity. It is something that should be in everyone's life. It gives a new perspective on life," the young artist adds.
