The international human rights organization Front Line Defenders has recently issued a statement of support for human rights lawyer Mohammadreza Faghihi, who was sent to Tehran's Evin Prison.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Dublin-based organization called on Iranian authorities to immediately and unconditionally release the lawyer.
Mohammadreza Faghihi, originally from Iranian Azerbaijan, was sent to Evin Prison on January 21 to serve a five-year sentence he had previously been convicted of.

Mohammad Reza Faghihi begins serving five-year prison sentence |
One of the few human rights lawyers in Iran, Faghihi has represented numerous political prisoners over the years in various Iranian courts, including Turkish language rights activists from Iranian Azerbaijan, Tehran, and Alborz provinces.
The human rights organization’s statement expressed concern over the "arbitrary sentence" imposed on Faghihi and the "pressure applied in the judicial process." It also emphasized that Faghihi has been targeted for his peaceful human rights activities, including representing political prisoners in court and exercising his right to assemble and associate freely.
